What are ETF fund flows?
When investors buy more ETF shares than are sold, the issuer creates new shares and money flows into the fund; when they redeem, shares are cancelled and money flows out. Flows therefore show where investors are putting money, independently of price moves.
How we estimate them
We record the number of shares outstanding of each ETF every day and multiply any change by the closing price. Public share counts are often updated late, so treat these numbers as indicative estimates, not official data.
